In Reggio-inspired classrooms like Sabot, provocations are carefully designed setups by teachers meant to spark curiosity, exploration, and collaboration. Rather than giving instructions, we provide materials or scenarios that invite children to think, create, and problem-solve on their own. Provocations encourage children to engage deeply with the world around them, promoting inquiry, creativity, and collaborative learning.
Here’s an example from the Nest, teachers Honey and Maddie set up a provocation for our youngest 2 year olds with blocks, tunnels, and cars.
"James was the first to spot it and quickly turned the blocks into a road. Seeing that the road needed to be longer, he and Honey worked together to extend it. Soon, Wright noticed what was happening and joined in, making the road both longer and taller! By the end of morning play, Essie, Ezra, and Elena had all become part of the project. This play continued throughout the week, evolving with different blocks, trains, and tunnels."
✨This is the magic of provocations—open-ended, child-led, and always evolving!✨
